The top three cosmetic surgery trends for men in 2018

MALE COSMETIC SURGERY IS ON THE RISE. HERE ARE THREE OF 2018’S MOST POPULAR TREATMENTS:

The top three cosmetic surgery trends for men in 2018

1. HAIR TRANSPLANTS

We all know a male friend who is going a bit thin on top. But male pattern baldness, or any form of hair loss, is now one of the number one causes of anxiety among men – particularly if they’re young. With 40% of men under the age of 35 worried about losing their hair, hair transplant surgery is on the rise. Restoring hair is an enormous confidence booster, and with modern technology, the surgery is only getting better and better. With well-known poster boys for the treatment like Wayne Rooney, we’re seeing a lot of the stigma attached to cosmetic surgery for men vanishing. Modern procedures often involve removing hairs from the back and side of the head, where they tend to grow thicker, and implanting them at the follicle into bald or balding areas. Costs can vary, but increase with the amount of work required.

2. LIPOSUCTION

Despite the massive growth of the health and fitness industry, some people still find it extremely difficult to shift fat. This can be a massive blow to men’s confidence, particularly with the seemingly ubiquitous presence of chiselled abs and ripped celebrities in movies, on TV and all over social media. Different forms ofliposuction have for a long time been a popular way for men to reveal their six-pack, or just generally more toned stomachs.

3. GYNAECOMASTIA SURGERY (OR MALE BREAST REDUCTION)

As any man who has ever worn an unflattering shirt will know, a flabby chest can be a source of embarrassment and plummeting self-confidence. ‘Man-boobs’, as they’re colloquially known, aren’t always the product of a bad diet, or even a lack of enough exercise. Hormone imbalances, genetic differences and even bone structure and muscle insertions can lead to the appearance of male breasts. In fact, about 50% of men suffer from the condition. Male breast reduction is on the rise, with double-digit growth year on year – it involves a surgeon making a small incision and removing fatty tissue from under the nipple, and costs hover around £3,000 at the moment.

More than 2,000 men had cosmetic surgery last year in the UK

More than 2,000 men had cosmetic surgery last year in the UKIt’s true that women still make up the bulk of patients who choose to undergo plastic surgery. However, there’s no denying that men are more willing than ever to go under the knife. This was certainly true in 2017 –

WHERE A TOTAL OF 2,417 MALES ENJOYED THE BENEFITS OF A MALE COSMETIC PROCEDURE. MEN NOW MAKE UP 10% OF ALL COSMETIC PROCEDURES, WHICH IS WAY UP ON THE 10-YEAR AVERAGE.

These enlightening statistics have been revealed by plastic surgeon Rajiv Grover, a former president and spokesperson for the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons. He accepted that men do face a certain ‘pressure’ to look good, even if it’s not as prominent as the pressure felt by women. He said: “Men aren’t looked at with the same scrutiny as women – you see quite a few male celebrities who don’t look like an Adonis, but they’re okay. The pressure is there for men, but as it’s more face-focused – facial procedures on the neck, nose, jaw etc. are the gold standard for them.”
So what are the most popular cosmetic procedures being enjoyed by men? A rhinoplasty – also known as a nose job – topped the charts in 2017. A total of 554 men opted to have it done, causing a 5% year-on-year increase from 2016. Meanwhile, ear correction surgery was close behind with 419 of these procedures being carried out on men over the same calendar year.
Eyelid reduction and male breast reduction came in third and fourth respectively on the list. Finally, liposuctionrounded off the top five most popular procedures for men after a total of 270 male patients decided to shape up with a little extra help.
Reflecting on the findings, Dr Grover argued that men are more ‘face-focused’ than ever before. He claimed: “[…] recently we’ve found there’s been a real change – men are more face-focused and less body-focused, whereas women are the opposite.”

TOWIE’s James Lock - hair transplant and Ear Correction in month

TOWIE’S JAMES LOCK HAS SHOWN THE WORLD THAT IT CAN BE A CASE OF ‘THE MORE THE MERRIER’ WHEN IT COMES TO COSMETIC SURGERY.

TOWIE-cosmetic-surgery
That’s because the reality star has treated himself to not one but TWO cosmetic procedures in the space of a month. In both cases, he’s been proud to tell the world exactly what he’s had done in his bid to boost his self-esteem.
James-lock-hair-transplantIn January, the 31-year-old underwent a hair transplant to restore his luscious locks. He was barely out of recovery when he shared the pictures with his huge fan base on social media. Alongside one image, James admitted he had no regrets about the procedure.
He wrote: “I went and had hair reconstruction surgery as this is something I have always wanted to do for myself as I have always been a bit self-conscious of my hairline. I am currently in the healing process so cannot see my results yet but can already tell it’s going to look how I’ve always wanted.”
James has now been spotted with bandages around his head. Quick to set people straight, he’s explained that it’s the result of long-desired ear correction surgery. James has said that this operation – along with the hair transplant – are the cause of ‘childhood insecurities’ that have followed him into his adult life.
He told the Sun: “Some people think I’m having an early midlife crisis, but I’m not. I have had a couple of insecurities since I was a kid about my ears and my hairline.” He added: “I’m a believer if something bothers you then fix it. So this is the price I have paid to make me feel good about myself, and for my body confidence.”

THE ONLY WAY IS SURGERY?

For James Lock, the only way to achieve happiness was to undergo cosmetic surgery. It’s clear that he has no regrets about his decision and is feeling more confident than ever. If you’re thinking that you could benefit from a similar procedure then get in touch with Belvedere. Much like James, you could finally get rid of the insecurities that have been plaguing you for your whole life.

Even dads are enjoying plastic surgery now

IT ONCE SEEMED LIKE ONLY WOMEN WERE PARTAKING IN THE JOYS OF PLASTIC SURGERY. HOWEVER, MEN HAVE LONG JUMPED ON TO THE TREND

– and now even those with kids are finding the time to go under the knife. A number of cosmetic specialists have now revealed that they are seeing more and more dads making an appointment with them in a bid to improve their appearance.

Dr Jayson Oates recently revealed that an increasing number of fathers are turning to surgery due to an unhappiness over their ‘dad bods’. This is a term used for men who have fallen out of shape, and therefore could be in need of liposuction, pectoral implants or similar treatments. Dr Oates – a former president of the Australasian Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery – told Mail Online that dads are turning to cosmetic procedures in an effort to ‘sculpt’ their figure. Talking to the news outlet, he said: “Certainly since spring we have seen an increasing interest in core sculpting.” Before adding: “We can tell a good candidate by the amount of fat we can grab.”
Meanwhile, the same trend has been seen in the United States. Last year, Dr. Doris Day revealed that cosmetic work had become a popular option amongst fathers because the procedures have become quicker and safer than ever before. She told Fox News: “The fact that we have so many treatments now that have little-to-no downtime and are minimal to non-invasive, it’s really opened up the market to men.”
But what is it that’s causing men to consider plastic surgery in the first place? Well, according to Dr Day fathers are seeking these life-changing treatments because they are conscious of how the pressures of work and raising a family have taken a toll on their appearance. She added: “Their children are graduating, getting married and having children themselves, and they want to look good for those events.”

Even dads are enjoying cosmetic surgery now

For evidence, just look no further than dad-of-three Tom Cruise. The movie star is believed to have had a nose joband Anti Wrinkle injections to maintain his youthful complexion as a father. Tom has kept his cards close to his chest on this front though – choosing to let his ageless complexion speak for itself instead!

Millennial men ‘extremely likely’ to consider cosmetic surgery.

A NEW REPORT HAS FOUND THAT A HIGH PERCENTAGE OF MILLENNIAL MEN ARE ‘EXTREMELY LIKELY’ TO CONSIDER COSMETIC SURGERY.

Millennial men ‘extremely likely’ to consider cosmetic surgery

THE RESEARCH, CONDUCTED BY THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF FACIAL PLASTIC AND RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY, SURVEYED 618 MEN ABOUT THEIR DESIRE TO CHANGE THEIR APPEARANCE. IN TOTAL, 31% SAID THAT THEY WOULD BE ‘EXTREMELY LIKELY’ TO CONSIDER A PROCEDURE IN FUTURE – WITH THE MAJORITY OF THESE AFFIRMATIVE ANSWERS (92%) COMING FROM THOSE WHO FELL INTO THE CATEGORY OF MILLENNIALS.

Of those people who confessed that they were open to going under the knife, the report also questioned their motivation for wanting to achieve the perfect appearance. It was found that the primary reasons for change stemmed from social media and a growing interest in celebrity culture.

WHAT PROCEDURES ARE MEN CONSIDERING?

The research found that the most popular procedures that men were undergoing included faceliftsnose jobs andhair transplants. In fact, 60% of non-millennials claimed that losing their hair was the number one trend that they would like to reverse. However, it would seem that the younger generation are still interested in this treatment, too.

CELEB ROLE MODELS

This month, X Factor star Jake Quickenden revealed that he had undergone a hair transplant. Speaking on Loose Women, the television personality, 28, said that he chose the procedure to boost his self-esteem ahead of marrying girlfriend Danielle Fogarty. Jake explained: “I didn’t want to walk down the aisle feeling less confident so one of the main reasons was so I could feel as confident as she can.”
He continued: “I think it will change how I feel. It was not an issue about saying it was done. You are always going to get someone saying something bad – I can’t care. It’s about sorting it out for myself. It is a big deal for many men and the amount of comments from guys saying thanks for being so open about – well, if it’s helped in that way it’s great.”

ARE YOU CONSIDERING HAVING WORK DONE?

It’s clear that plastic surgery is becoming a much more popular option for men. If you’re contemplating going under the knife, can find the procedure that’s right for you by getting in touch with the Belvedere Clinic or more information.

Famous male celebrities who have turned to cosmetic surgery

THE LIST OF FAMOUS MEN THAT HAVE RECEIVED PLASTIC SURGERY IS NOT A SHORT ONE. AS THE PRESSURE TO STAY ETERNALLY YOUNG INTENSIFIES, MORE MEN WILL HAVE PROCEDURES CARRIED OUT.

WHEN SHOWBIZ JOURNALISTS TALK ABOUT CELEBRITIES THAT HAVE RECEIVED COSMETIC SURGERY, MORE OFTEN THAN NOT THEIR FIRST PORT OF CALL IS TO REFERENCE A WOMAN.

This, unfortunately, is just part of the running theme in modern society, especially when it comes to scrutinising people in the public eye. Put simply, famous women are under more pressure than their male counterparts to have a nip and a tuck every so often.
That said, the list of famous men that have received plastic surgery is not a short one. As the pressure to stay eternally young intensifies, more men will have procedures carried out.

Famous male celebrities who have turned to cosmetic surgeryHERE’S A TASTE OF JUST A FEW FAMOUS MEN AND THE WORK THEY HAVE HAD DONE.

DWAYNE ‘THE ROCK’ JOHNSON

The former pro wrestler-turned-movie star has gone under the knife for the opposite procedure to what most women would consider — a breast reduction.
As is the case with so many men of Samoan heritage, Johnson was particularly heavy-chested in his younger years. These days, his chest is way more defined, and evidence of Breast reduction surgery ( gynecomastia ) is visible to the naked eye.

ALAN SUGAR

The star of The Apprentice UK has had eyelid surgery to add a touch of youth to his ageing complexion. Sugar, who formerly owned Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, had the treatment carried out in the United States ten years ago.
The London-born billionaire even admits to using the infamous “do you know who I am?” line. That’s right, Sugar used his fame to skip his way to the top of the surgeon’s six-month waiting list.

SYLVESTER STALLONE

Now 70 years of age, ‘Sly’ has been able to remain a Hollywood A-lister by staying in great physical condition. However, he appears to have had a considerable amount of help from the plastic surgeon as well.
The star of the Rocky, Rambo and Expendables movies has a noticeably more square jawline than in his younger years, while there is strong speculation of facelifts and an eyebrow lift. Stallone has never admitted to any surgery but the speculation never ends — and the before-and-after pics certainly don’t lie!

X Factor stars and cosmetic surgery: James Arthur Has Nose Job

As well as ultimately securing a number one single, many former contestants have also gone on to overhaul their image by going under the knife. The latest star to keep this cosmetic surgery trend going is James Arthur.

James – who won the talent show in 2012 – revealed he recently had a nose job. The singer told fans that he was undergoing the op with a post to his followers on Twitter. He wrote: “I’m in hospital waiting to have my nose broke back into place.” James later revealed that he’d decided on the procedure after having “one too many scuffles as a teen”. In an interview with The Sun, he elaborated: “They are going to break it and put it back in place. It’s all my years of fighting – too much fighting as a young guy.” In the same interview, he also revealed that he’d had his teeth ‘done’ and would soon be getting dental veneers.

Of course, James is far from the first star to make changes to his appearance following his stint on X Factor. Former hopeful Chris Maloney had three hair transplants, two nose jobs and an eyebrow lift once he was booted off the show. In a televised interview, he revealed that he’d made the decision to have work done after being relentlessly taunted by viewers.

In 2015, Chris said: “I hated how big my nose was so I’ve had surgery twice on it – to make it smaller and change the way my profile looks. When the bandages first came off I looked in the mirror and had a complete panic attack because I was all bloody and bruised. Now I feel so much happier for it.”

Is the trend for you?

You may be wondering if this trend is for you – and it’s very possible that it is. No matter what procedure you’ve got your eye on, you can receive expert information by getting in touch with the Belvedere Clinic today. Like James and Chris, it could be just the solution to improve your life.
